Presenting the Gospel
Week 7, Sunday July 19th

Theme for this Sunday: Peter Presents the Gospel

Passage for Sunday: Acts 3:1-26

In the previous chapter we saw apostles were already performing signs and wonders through power of the Holy Spirit.  In this week’s passage we see a man healed as he acts in faith and obedience, and God using his changed life to draw others to hear the gospel Peter preaches. Peter’s sermon appeals to the objective evidence of the apostle's eyewitness historical accounts as well as the subjective evidence of the healed man’s changed life as the means to prove the resurrected Jesus is real. He also appeals to Old Testament passage to support his argument that Jesus is promised Jewish Messiah. All this was possible because of the power of Holy Spirit engaging Peter’s knowledge of scripture and lived experiences. Peter finishes his sermon by inviting those listening to repent and turn to God in faith.

  • What does Peter say about Jesus and what evidence does he provide to support his claims?

  • How does Peter prove Jesus is the promised Old Testament Messiah and why is it important to see Jesus as central to the Old Testament?

  • What can we learn about evangelism and witnessing from Peter in this passage?
