Baptism is Christ’s gift. It is the sign by which the Spirit of God joins people to Jesus Christ and incorporates them into his body, the Church. It is a something that is open to both children and adults and is a way that we celebrate God’s promise through Jesus and recognises the invitation to claim our place as part of God’s family.
Baptism is performed by our minister. You don't need to be a member of our church for your child to be baptised.
If you are keen to explore baptism for you or your children, please contact Redlands Uniting Church on 0491 068 256.
There are a few steps that we typically go through for a baptism.
Firstly, we ask that you come along and check out one of our Sunday Services. Check the Events Page to see what services are available. This helps you to decide if this a community that you want to connect within through baptism.
It is also helpful in that you can get a bit familiar with how the services generally work, where different facilities are for kids, etc, as well as meet people. In the Uniting Church, baptisms generally always happen as part of a normal Sunday Service, so it can be helpful to get familiar with what this will involve.
After this we will generally arrange a time to have a chat about what we understand about what we celebrate in baptism, look at the promises that you will make, look at the promises the congregation will make and some of the ways that this will get worked out.
As part of this discussion, we also look at potential dates where a baptism might happen. This time to meet can happen in your home, at the church, during office hours or after work.
Once this is all sorted, we will generally send a draft service booklet about a week before the baptism service, just to check that everything is correct and that you are still good to go.
